Emacs Keybind on Browser on Ubuntu 11.04
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 in my office (2 of them) and 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) at home, and for all of them I use firemacs, which enables Emacs keybind on a web browser FireFox (FF).
But only on Natty, many keybinds activated by firemacs collide with the inherent keybinds of FF (both version 5.0 and 3.6.20), which makes my computing very uncomfortable. To me, emacs keybind is one of the keys in using computers for longtime a day, and that useful add-on firemacs is one of the only 2 reasons I've been stuck to FF. Now that 1of 2 isn't fulfilled, I'm just trying other browsers that has capability of emacs keybind.
So far "Edit with Emacs" for Google Chrome seems good.
Emacs installed locally separated from Chrome is opened when user wants to write in textfield/area (It might not be able to activate from text field). Think I keep trying this for awhile and see how it goes. Since their documentation is poor for now, I'll add description.
Step-1. Install from the web site above. Emacs logo will show up on Chrome, next to the address field on my env.
Step-2. Right click the emacs logo, select "Options". Html page is will be opened on Chrome.
Step-3. Follow the instruction in the html page. In my case, I moved "edit-server.el" to /usr/share/emacs23/site-lisp/edit-server.el where Emacs 23 is perhaps installed.
Step-4. Still following the instruction, I added the phrases in .emacs on my home directory /home/user/.emacs
