Visiting schools in California, meeting w/astronautics engineers

On the way back to Texas from Japan in January, I stopped off at California to visit the graduate schools I'm applying now(Caltech, University of Southern California (USC)). I also asked an acquaintance of an acquaintance who are working for NASA's JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) for a dinner, then by his suggestion, our meeting was extended to 11 people all of who are working/studying in LA/Pasadena in Astronautics related area.
I also attended a laboratory tour in NASA's JPL(link to the official site). You need a reservation in a way advance such as a month.

Me with the City Hall of Pasadena city

In the bathroom at Travelodge, Pasadena. It was a cheap motel indeed, but I never seen woven towels and bath tissue like shells. These were enough to have made me think that cleaning was thoroughly done, no matter how it actually was done. Here was a piece of serviceability.

Gyu-don (rice bowl with barbecued beef on top, Yoshinoya, Pasadena. It tased the same with ones in Japan, but less in the amount, so not fully satisfying.

In the library at Caltech, I found Jump, one of the most popular weekly comic in Japan.

At the entrance of Aeronautics' building at Caltech (person is not me). Inside of that massive wooden door was re-built recently in modern look.

I was standing at the entrance of a building that the department I am applying is in. I couldn't get into the building since the grad student I asked to introduce around the campus didn't have an access to this building.
