(TI Nspire CX CAS Calculator) Variable not reflect the setting change unless "Make Default"

Need to click "Make Default" in order to reflect the change to the current Document/Scratchpad, instead of just "Ok". The help button shows the difference but doesn't make sense to me so far. Something I just need to follow.
