Yumiko Matsuoka's release party @ Boston
I've been to a new album's release concert of Ms.Yumiko Matsuoka who is a voice professor at Berkeley college of Music at Boston and also the leader of one of my favorite chorus group "Vox One" (related article). Unfortunately the group is not popular at all, but I believe the chorus culture circle in Keio university "KOE" definitely grew up with them. And because of some active colleagues, the relationship between Vox One and KOE is now not one-way. The students circle also directly or indirectly assisted that American-based group sometimes. So, information about this party was not broadly distributed but I luckily heard about it from my music-colleague who is sometimes working with them.
This acoustic concert was held in a church where I could sense every single tone has nervousness. Needless to say but they are obviously professional! Due to my packed travel schedule I was so exhausted, but it was really good to be at this concert. At the end of the concert, Vox One sung their original arrange of a traditional tune "Danny boy" and I wept. Even now I'm weeping at the hotel listening their old albums :).
Her latest release can be bought here.
Official description of today's event. Actually it was also a charity of her master.
(Not today's recording but below is their performance on Danny boy)
Why I weep? Besides the beauty of music itself, music reminds me of good-old-times, sad-recent-times, harsh reality, etc...Not only positive effects. But still, I am really proud that I keep singing as a primary hobby. I might be able to live if I don't forget to do that sometimes.
Today was another tough day...I woke up at Princeton, New Jersey, spent lunch time at central park in NYC, and the evening concert in Boston...But, this amazing journey will end shortly.
